BIOLOGY

Application to the B.Sc Biology Programme should meet a minimum of 5 Ordinary Level (O’ Level) Credits including English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and any one of the following: Geography, Agriculture or Economics with at least, a Pass (D7) in Physics at the National Examination Council (NECO) Level, Senior Secondary School Certificate (SSCE), General Certificate of Education (GCE), West African School Certificate (WASC) of the West African Examination Council (WAEC). Relevant certificates and Diplomas will be considered on individual merits.
Direct Entry

  • OND with upper credit may be admitted into 200 levels of the programme.
  • NCE with credit passes in any one of  the options below may be admitted into 200 level of the programme:
  • Biology/Chemistry
  • Integrated Science/Chemistry
  • Related Science based courses
  • HND with credit pass in Biology or related programmes, and credit passes in requisite subjects at O’ Level may be admitted into 200 Level.
  • A level Passes (A-E) in one or more relevant subjects (Biology, Chemistry, Geography, mathematics and Physics)

 

CHEMISTRY

  • 4 –year B.Sc(Hons) Chemistry
  • The entry requirements shall be at least credit level passes in five subjects including English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry to form the core course with credit in Physics, and any other relevant science subjects at the Senior Secondary School Certificate or its equivalent. In addition, an acceptable pass in the University.
  • O’level credit passes in five subjects, which must include Mathematics, English language, Chemistry and Physics; and obtained in not more than 2 sittings.

Note: ‘O’ level results are the ones conducted by: West African Examination Council (WAEC), GCE London-moderated ‘O’ level, and University of Cambridge-moderated ‘O’ level.

  • 3 –year B.Sc(Hons) Chemistry (Direct entry)
  • O’level credit passes in five subjects, which must include Mathematics, English language, Chemistry and Physics; and obtained in not more than 2 sittings.
  • In addition, candidates must possess   at least an upper credit in ONDor NCE in Chemistry or a closely related course.

Candidates with two A level passes (graded A-E) at the Advanced Level in one or more relevant subjects (Biology, Botany, Chemistry, Geography, Mathematics and Physics

 

PHYSICS

To be admitted into the B.Sc. Physics programme, a candidate is expected to possess at least one of the following:

  1. Five (5) credit passes in Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) or at the School Certificate (SC), General Certificate of Education (GCE) Ordinary Level, National Examinations Council (NECO) or 6 merit passes in National Board for Technical Education  (NABTEB)  or Teachers Grade  Two Certificate (TC II) examinations. The credit passes must include Mathematics and Physics. Credit pass in English language is required.
  2. General Certificate of Education (GCE) Advanced level in Mathematics and Physics for entry into 200 level of the programme.
  3.  National Certificate in Education (NCE) with merit passes in Mathematics and Physics or Physics and Chemistry for entry into 200 level of the programme.
  4. National Diploma (N.D.) in the physical sciences or equivalent qualification from an institution recognized by Senate for entry into 200 level of the programme. 
  5. Degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) or equivalent qualification in any physical science from an institution recognized by Senate for entry into 200 level of the programme.

Note: All direct entry candidates must satisfy the ordinary level requirement.

 

COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY

To be admitted for the B.Sc. Communication Technology programme, a candidate is expected to:

  1. Have at least five credits in SSC, GCE ‘O’ level or 6 merits in NABTEB or TC II examinations.  The credit passes must include English Language, Mathematics and Physics.
  2. Have the NCE Certificate examination with merit pass in mathematics in addition to a credit pass in any other science subject preferably Physics for entry into 200 level of the programme
  3. Have GCE Advance level in mathematics and physics or OND with upper Credit grade or HND in addition to (i) above for consideration into 200 level of the programme

Computer Science

To be admitted for the B. Sc Computer Science programme, a candidate is expected to:
i)         Have at least five credits in SSC, GCE ‘O’ level or 6 merits in NABTEB or TC II examinations.  The credit passes must include English Language, Mathematics and Physics.

    1. Have the NCE Certificate examination with merit pass in mathematics in addition to a credit pass in any other science subject preferably Physics for entry into 200 level of the programme
    2. Have GCE Advance level in mathematics and  physics or OND with upper Credit grade or HND in addition to (i) above for consideration into 200 level of the programme.

Data Management

To be admitted for the B.Sc Data Management programme, a candidate is expected to:
i)         Have at least five credits in SSC, GCE ‘O’ level or 6 merits in NABTEB or TC II examinations.  The credit passes must include English Language, Mathematics and Physics.

    1. Have the NCE Certificate examination with merit pass in mathematics in addition to a credit pass in any other science subject preferably Physics for entry into 200 level of the programme
    2. Have GCE Advance level in mathematics and  physics or OND with upper Credit grade or HND in addition to (i) above for consideration into 200 level of the programme.

Environmental Studies & Resource Management

The minimum entry requirements for BSc. Environmental Science and Resource Management are five (5) O’ Level (SSCE/NECO/G.C.E/NABTEB) Credits at not more than two sittings including: English and Mathematics and any of Geography, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Agricultural Science and Economics.
      Direct Entry:

  • Two (2) A level credit passes in Science or Social Sciences subjects with five (5) O level subjects in English Language and Mathematics and any of Geography, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Agricultural Science and Economics.
  • OND/HND Certificate holders in relevant fields in addition to O level requirements.

Any other qualifications as may be approved by the University Senate, usually informed by related work experience of applicants.

Mathematics/Computer Science

To be admitted into the B.Sc. Mathematics programme, a candidate is expected to possess at least one of the following:

  1. Financial Mathematics 5215

Candidates seeking admission into the B.Sc Financial Mathematics Degree Programme must have one the foolowing qualifications:

   1. Five (5) credit passes in not more than two sittings in WASCE, SSCE, GCE, NECO and NABTEB in the following subjects: English Language, Mathematics and any three from Physics, Chemistry/Biology, Economics and Accounting

Direct Entry requirement

  • Holders of OND Statistics, Physics, Economics and Accounting. (At Upper Credit)
  • Holders of NCE Statistics, Physics, Mathematics, economics and Accounting or any of its combinations.
  • Concessional admission may be considered for holders of OND, NCE, and HND with deficiency in Physics.
 

Post Graduate Diploma Programmes

   

 

Digital Communication

A graduate from a recognized University, with at least a third-class degree or a person with a qualification adjudged to be equivalent to a first degree may be admitted in the programme.
A holder of a minimum of lower credit in the Higher National Diploma from a recognized institution may also be admitted.
A graduate from a recognized University, with a pass degree and with at least three years of experience may be admitted in the programme.
Candidates may be required to provide evidence of exemption or participation of the national NYSC programme before registration.

 

Mobile(Wireless) Communications Technology

A graduate from a recognized University, with at least a third-class degree or a person with a qualification adjudged to be equivalent to a first degree may be admitted in the programme.
A holder of a minimum of lower credit in the Higher National Diploma from a recognized institution may also be admitted.
A graduate from a recognized University, with a pass degree and with at least three years of experience may be admitted in the programme.
Candidates may be required to provide evidence of exemption or participation of the national NYSC programme before registration.

 

Information Technology

Masters’ Programmes

 

 

 

Information Technology (with Internet Applications)

A candidate with a first degree from a recognized University with a minimum of second-class lower division provided the matriculation requirement is satisfied.
A candidate with a good post-graduate diploma from a recognized University may also be admitted to a Masters Degree Programme provided the University matriculation requirement is met.
Candidate may be required to provide evidence of exemption or participation of the national NYSC programme before registration.
Candidates who wish to register for a master’s degree in an academic area different from the area of the first degree may need to go through the postgraduate diploma programme at the first instance.
