How do I apply for admission into National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN?)

How to view the requirements and apply kindly note the following:

  1. Visit nou.edu.ng
  2. Click on ‘Apply now’
  • Follow the prompt on your screen
  1. Click on ‘Admission’
  2. Click on ‘Am I qualified’
  3. Choose the type of programme you want to apply for
  • Select your Faculty/Department/Programme/Level then Next
  • View the requirement needed…if you met the requirement then click on Apply for admission
  1. Click/tap and select option to your country of residence and choice of programme
  2. Fill the form correctly and accurately.
  3. Click on the ‘Next’ button
  • Click on ‘Details confirmed’ button after confirming displayed pieces of information
  • Re-confirm payment details, click on ‘Yes’ and then on ‘Make payment’ button
  • On the remita page, confirm displayed information and click on the ‘Submit’ button
  1. Select applicable payment option and click on ‘Make payment’ button
  • Still at the remita end, follow the prompts on the screen.
  • When you enter your one-time-password (OTP) and click the submit button, it is strongly advised that you do not do anything on the keyboard, mouse or screen until you are returned to NOUN page
  • You will be debited and returned (if there was no interruption) to NOUN page. Follow the instructions and note the pieces of information on the screen
How can i check/complete payment for application form?

Click on the ‘Apply for admission’ icon on the left side of the screen

  • Select/enter all options as applicable
  • Click on the ‘Submit’ button
  • Click on ‘Details confirmed’ button after confirming displayed pieces of information
  • Re-confirm payment details, click on ‘Yes’ and then on ‘Make payment’ button
  • On the REMITA page, confirm displayed information and click on the ‘Submit’ button
  • Select applicable payment option and click on ‘Make payment’ button
  • Still at the REMITA end, follow the prompts on the screen.
  • When you enter your one-time-password (OTP) and click the submit button, it is strongly advised that you do not do anything on the keyboard, mouse or screen until you are returned to NOUN page

How can i login to the application form?

Click ‘Home’

  • Click ‘Admission’
  • Click on ‘Return to application form’
  • Enter your application form number and your password
  • Click on the ‘Login’ button
  • Follow the prompts on the screen
How can i fill/edit my application form?

Sections of the application form must be completed sequentially. Skipping is not allowed.

  • The top of the head, the front baseline of the neck and the two ears must be clearly visible on the passport picture
  • To delete one or more of the credentials you have entered (possible only if every section of the application form has been completed)
  • a. Click on the ‘Preview form’ button (top) if you are not on the form preview page
  • b. Scroll to the ‘Academic history’ section
  • c. Click on the corresponding ‘edit’ icon
  • d. Click on the button for the credential
  • e. Click on the ‘Delete’ button
  • f. Confirm your intention
  • To access/edit any section of your application form from the form preview page
  • a. Click on the corresponding edit icon
  • b. Make adjustments as applicable
  • c. Click on the ‘Next’ button to save changes and move to the next
How can i to submit application form?

Login to the application form as described in D above

  • Complete all the sections(1 – 6) of the form
  • Click on the ‘Submit’ button at the right bottom area on the form preview page
  • Read the message on the screen carefully and respond accordingly
  • Read and follow the guides on the screen
  • Visit your study centre of choice for screening
What do i do next after screening?

Login to the application form as described in D above

  • Follow the instruction on the screen.
  • Read the pieces of information and follow the instruction(s) on the page.
  • Click on ‘Fresh student’ icon on the lower left area of the page
  • Fill in the boxes according to the labels
  • Be mindful of what you type as your password and answer to your security question
  • Click the ‘Submit’ button.
  • Read the instruction that pops up on the screen and take step(s) accordingly
  • Your admission/application status will be reflected here
How can i sign-in with my matriculation number?

Click on ‘Registered student’

  • Enter your matriculation number and password accordingly
  • Click the ‘Login’ button.
  • Read the instruction that pops up on the screen and take step(s) accordingly
  • Note the calendar summary that pops up and click to remove
How can i register for new session or second semester (pay session/semester registration fee)?

Sign-in as described in procedure J

  • Click on ‘Register for the semester’ on the left side of your home page
  • Note the fee break-down that pops up and click on ‘Yes’ at the bottom of the pop-up
  • Read the pieces of information and instruction on the page
  • Answer the question below the boxed instruction to confirm your intention
  • Click on the Submit button and you will be directed to remita site
  • On REMITA site, note the pieces of information and click the submit button if they are correct. Else, re-start the process.
  • On the pop-up box that comes up, click on your choice of payment (card option is the default) and follow the prompt on the screen
  • When the payment is successful, you will be re-directed back to your section of the University portal. Wait for this redirection to complete before you do anything else on the screen.
  • Read and follow the instructions on the page carefully
  • Click on ‘Register courses’ and check the box corresponding to each course of interest.
  • Click on the ‘Submit’ button on the lower right area of the screen
  • Confirm your selections
  • Bring up your course registration slip by clicking on ‘Course registration slip’
  • Print and keep a copy of the slip for future reference
How can i register for courses?

  • Close the pop-up event calendar and any other pop-up box
  • If you have already done 1 and 2, return to the page from which you came here and click the ‘My home’ button (top)
  • Close any pop-up box
  • Click ‘Register courses’

What is E-ticketing?

This is a platform created for NOUN learners to send in their complaints/inquiries through support.nou.edu.ng ensuring a swift response without the necessity of personally visiting the Study Centres or the Headquarters.

The E-ticket platform is accessible only to active learners who have completed their registration and have been assigned a matriculation number.

How can I access the E-ticketing platform/raise a ticket?

For easy access, visit www.support.edu.ng and follow the steps below.

  1. Log into your browser (e.g. google, chrome, explorer etc.)
  2. Type in nouonline.net
  3. On the dashboard, click on “click here to contact student based support system”
  4. To raise a ticket, input your matric number and phone number in the spaces provided.
  5. Click and select a category that is relevant to your complaints/enquiries.
  6. Select a ‘sub category’ that is relevant to your complaints/enquiries.
  7. Click on the message box and narrate your complaints/enquiries.
  8. Attach relevant document, if necessary.You can upload a PDF document or photo in the next space provided, then click “send”.

A message with a reference number will appear on your screen, use that number to track your inquiry.

How can I access my e-learning portal?
  • Visit https://elearn.nou.edu.ng/
  • Enter your username and password. Your initial username and password will be your matriculation number in lower case.
  • An authentication code will be sent to your student E-mail address, kindly copy the code and paste in the box provided on your E-learn portal.
  • After successfully logging in, you will be prompted to change your password. Follow these steps:
  1. Enter your old password (i.e., your matriculation number)
  2. Enter your new password
  3. Confirm the new password
  4. Verify that your email address, programme, Study Centre etc. have been correctly entered. If not accurate, make the necessary changes
  5. click “save”
How do I reset my password?
  • Click on “login”
  • Then click on “Forgot Password?”
  • Enter your NOUN official email address accurately and click on “Send Password Reset Link”.
  • Next, check your NOUN official Email, INBOX or SPAM folder to locate the password reset link,
  • Follow the link to reset your password
I am unable to access my e-learning portal after completing registration process

Your e-learning portal will be accessible 2 working days after you have completed your examination registration

I am concerned that the courses I have registered for are not reflecting on my portal

Your current registered courses will only reflect on your portal after you have completed your examination registration.

The Course/Examination registrations are not visible on my dashboard

When I try to log in to my e-learning portal using my matriculation number, it shows “User not recognized”

Your e-learning portal will become accessible once Facilitation and Tutor Marked Assignment (TMA) commence

Visit https://elearn.nou.edu.ng/

  1. Enter your username and password. Your initial username and password will be your matriculation number in lower case
  2. After successfully logging in, you will be prompted to change your password. Follow these steps:
  3. Enter your old password (i.e., your matriculation number)
  4. Enter your new password
  5. Confirm the new password
  6. Verify that your email address, programme, Study Centre etc. have been correctly entered. If not accurate, make the necessary changes
  7. Click “save” 
How can I reset my e-learn password?

For old and returning students: your previous semester’s password remains valid unless forgotten. If forgotten, please use the “Forgot Password” option and provide your NOUN student email. A Message will be sent to your NOUN email. If your records have not been uploaded to the platform, access will not be granted.

For new students: log in using your matriculation number as both your username and password with the prefix in lower case (e.g., nou123456789)

 

How can I access my TMA Grades?

To view your TMA grades, please follow these steps:

  • Log in to the TMA portal using your login details via https://elearn.nouedu2.net/
  • The initial login uses your matriculation number as both the username and password, but you will need to reset your password upon the first login. (Your login credentials remain the same for successive semesters)
  • Navigate to one of your courses
  • On the left-hand side of the screen, you will see an icon resembling an open book; click on it
  • This will display the grades for the selected course
  • If you want to see all your TMA results, click on any of your courses, then click on “Overview report”, this will present all your TMA grades.
How do I log into my Tutor Marked (TMA) Portal?

To access the TMA portal please follow these steps:

  • Visit the TMA portal via https://elearn.nou.edu.ng/with your login details,
  • Returning students could use the same login details as the previous semester as your login details remain the same. For new students, your matriculation number is your username and password, prefix (nou.) in lower case. On your first login, you will be prompted to change your password.
  • Once logged in successfully navigate to the desired course you wish to take the TMA
  • On the course page, scroll down to find the “TMA section”
  • Within the “TMA section, you will find “Tutor Marked Assignment 1 (TMA1)” “Tutor Marked Assignment 2 (TMA2)” and “Tutor Marked Assignment 3 (TMA3)”, click on TMA1 and proceed to attempt the TMAs accordingly. You need to submit TMA 1 first in order to gain access to TMA 2 and subsequently TMA 3.
How are TMA courses displayed on the portal?

Your registered courses will be visible on your TMA portal, along with their associated questions, within 2 working days of your course registration. It is important to complete both your examination and course registrations. Please note that courses for which you have not registered for examination will not appear on your TMA portal.

I would like to request upload of my Seminar/Project/Teaching practice results

Visit your study centre to upload a copy of your seminar/project/teaching practice results

  1. After you have submitted for upload at your study centre and your result is still not uploaded, you will need to log on to the support portal at support.nou.edu.ngto raise a ticket under the e-learn category.
I can no longer access my email

Certainly! Creating and activating an email account for students at the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) is essential for seamless communication and resource access. Let’s walk through the steps:

  • Accessing Your NOUN Student Email:
    • First, log in to the NOUN student portal at nouonline.net.
    • Once you’re logged in, your personal email address will be displayed on the dashboard. Highlight or right-click on the email address to copy it.
  • Setting Up Your Gmail Account:
    • If you have the Gmail app installed on your device, open it. If not, you can visit gmail.com in your browser.
    • In the space where you need to enter your email address, paste the email you copied from the NOUN portal.
    • For the password, use your matriculation number in Uppercase.
  • Changing Your Password:
    • After successfully logging in, you’ll be prompted to change the default password. Feel free to choose a new password that you’ll remember.
    • Remember to save your login details on your device for easy access later.
  • Accessing Your NOUN Student Email Anywhere:
    • You can add your NOUN student email account to your Gmail app on any device. This way, you’ll receive notifications whenever there are updates.
    • Additionally, you can log in to your NOUN student email from any device with internet access.
  • Resetting Your NOUN Student Email Password:
    • If you forget your email password, don’t worry! NOUN provides a way to reset it.
    • Follow the same steps as when setting up your email: paste your student email address on gmail.com, but this time select the “forgot password” option.
    • An access or OTP code will be sent to your registered phone number (as per your admission application) and your NOUN email address.
    • Enter the six-digit code and proceed to change your password.

Remember, your NOUN student email is an important tool for staying connected with the university community, receiving official announcements, and accessing resources and NOUN platform.

For your support password reset, kindly follow the steps below:

  1. visit www.support.nou.edu.ng
  2. Click on login
  3. Click on “Forgot Password”
  4. Enter your student email address

  6. Check your student email inbox or spam folder for the sent reset password
My CGPA fluctuates

Your Cumulative GPA may fluctuate following each academic result release, increasing, decreasing, or staying the same, depending on your academic performance.

I would like to request a remark of my E-Examination

E-examination does not provide a remark option

I would like to request remark of my POP Examination

To request that your POP examination is remarked, please follow these steps:

  1. Lodge a complaint and apply for re-marking through your Study Centre to the Academic Registry
  2. Attach evidence of your exam registration
  3. Pay a re-marking fee of Twenty Thousand Naira only (₦20,000) per course through remita to the University’s account.
My results are incomplete

If you have incomplete results, it could be due to the absence of either TMAs or Examination scores. Kindly raise an e-ticket on support.nou.edu.ng for further action

How can I go about reviewing my results?

To access this platform, follow these steps:

  1. To sign in, visit https://support.nou.edu.ng/ and use your matriculation number as the username,
  2. If you have not changed it yet, your temporary password is “default”
  3. Upon your first login, you will need to change your password

After updating your password, click on “result statement” to view your comprehensive results, including your CGPA and outstanding courses.

How can I attain a Passing grade?

Your final grade is determined by combining your TMAs and Examination scores. TMA scores contribute 30% while examination scores contribute 70%, towards the pass mark, with variations depending on the programme of study. Undergraduate students generally require 40% and above to attain pass mark, except for nursing programmes which require 50% and above. Postgraduate programmes typically have a pass mark of 50% and above.

The Courses I did not pass still appear on my statement of results

Any course you previously failed will continue to be reflected in your statement of results, even if you later pass them, it remains a permanent part of your records.

I have made payment and it is not reflecting in my wallet, what should I do to resolve this?

If a payment has been made successfully but is not reflecting in your e-wallet, please follow these steps:

  • Log in to nouonline.net
  • Click on “Check RRR”,
  • Enter the RRR, if it indicates successful payment, log in to your portal,
  • Click on your wallet and select “Credit RRR and enter the “RRR”. This should update your wallet with the payment
I have a deficit in my wallet, how do I resolve it
  • Login to your portal and navigate to the wallet section
  • click on “Wallet” and select “View Wallet”
  • Once the portal content is displayed, review all your payments,
  • If any payment is not reflecting, go to the home page of your portal and click on “Check RRR”
  • Enter the missing RRR. If it shows as “Successful”, proceed
  • Log back into your portal, click on “Wallet” and select “Credit RRR”.
  • Enter the “RRR” and the payment should now reflect in your wallet.
  • If you are unable to identify the error, please visit your Study Centre or the nearest one to your location and seek assistance from the accountant.
How do I print my e-wallet?
  • For a Returning student, log in to your portal,
  • Navigate to the wallet section, choose “View Wallet” and proceed to print.
  • For grandauntsclick on “Final Clearance”, select check wallet and then print.
I have been charged multiple times for a registered course and require a reversal or refund of charges

Please raise an e-ticket on the student support platform under the “Students Portal Issues” category. Under the subcategory, click “Course/Exam Registration Issue” and submit your complaint. Our team will resolve it.

What are the steps to follow in order to complete the final clearance process for certificate collection?

To initiate your final clearance for certificate collection, follow these steps:

  • Visit nounonline.net and click on “Final Clearance” Section
  • Select the option for “Determine Amount Payable”
  • Enter your matriculation number and the portal will display your clearance bill
  • Choose your preferred Bank Branch for payment and click “Pay”. This action will redirect you to the remita payment page
  • Complete the payment process through remita
  • After making the payment, visit your designated Study Centre for further guidance and assistance to complete your clearance.
How can I withdraw the remaining balance from my e-wallet after graduating?

Submit an application to the Bursar and include the following documents:

  • Proof of final clearance
  • Receipts for Payments made during clearance

What is SIWES?

SIWES, which stands for Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme, is often referred to as a student internship programme.  It is a mandatory skills training programme in Nigerian tertiary institutions, designed to providing students with exposure to machinery, equipment, professional work methods and workplace safety.

It is part of the approved Benchmark for Minimum Academic Standards (BMAS) for certain degree programmes at the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) and designed to bridge the gap between the theoretical and practical aspects of academic and other professional educational programmes.

What is the duration for SIWES?

The Duration for SIWES is typically six months, although some programmes may divide the work experience into three months, which can be completed during your 200-level and another three months during your 300-level, totaling six months. The only exception is for the students of B. Agriculture that have their Farm Practical Year (FPY/SIWES) for fifty-two weekends.

What is the Credit Unit for SIWES?

SIWES carries a credit load of six. In some programmes, it is allocated as 3 credits in the second Year and 3 credits in the third Year. The only exception applies to the B. Agriculture programme, where the Farm Practical Year/SIWES is registered as AGR400 and holds a credit load of twenty-four credit units.

How do I register for SIWES?

To register for SIWES, please follow these steps:

  • login to the SIWES platform at https://mylearningspace.nouedu2.net
  • Username: matriculation number in capital letters, Password: matriculation number in small letters
  • When the home page opens, select “My SIWES Record” on the left-side menu and login again
  • Username: Matriculation number in capital letters, Password: Matriculation

  • Click on “Add a SIWES record”, fill out the forms, upload your passport, and         save      
  • Then, select the SIWES details, fill out the forms and save.
  • Next, you can proceed to download and print the request for Placement letter    001 and Placement acceptance form 002.
What is ITF Stipend?

The ITF stipend refers to a financial allowance or payment provided by the Industrial Training Fund (ITF) to students during their Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) in Nigeria. It is a form of financial support to help students cover their expenses while gaining practical work experience.

To be eligible for the stipend, you need to fulfil the following requirements:

  • The placement must be relevant to your programme of study,
  • Submit your Student Commencement of Attachment Form (SCAF) to the nearest ITF office within two weeks of commencement of attachment. This will give the ITF officials an idea of where you are placed and supervise your placement effectively.
  • Complete the description of the work done with necessary diagrams and pictures.
  • Fulfil the mandatory 24-week period for SIWES attachment with weekly entries filled by both you and your industry-based supervisor.
  • Engage in practical-based attachment and demonstrate its relevance during SIWES supervision. The spaces provided must be duly filled by you and your Industry based supervisor must append his or her signature with comments on a weekly basis.
  • You must supply the account details with sort code at the time of submission
  • Student must have fulfilled all the other requirements as stated in the Stepwise procedure for SIWES.
Which Programmes at our University receive funding from ITF?

The National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) has three programmes funded by the Industrial Training Fund (ITF)

These programmes are listed below:

 

  • Sc. Agricultural Economics Management (AEM)
  • Sc. (Ed.) Business Education (BED314 and BED413)
  • Sc. Computer Science (CIT389)

 

Undergraduates enrolled in these ITF-funded programmes will receive a stipend of Fifteen Thousand Naira only (N15,000) if they fulfil all the aforementioned conditions.

How do I change my placement?

To change your placement Please access the SIWES platform at https://mylearningspace.nou.edu.ng,

  • Login with your username and password.
  • Select “VIEW and EDIT SIWES Record”,
  • Select your matriculation number when the page loads and click on “EDIT”on the next page, select “SIWES Details”, Edit and save.
  • You can then go to the home page and click on “Request for placement form 001”,download and print.
  • Click on “Placement acceptance letter 002”,download and print.
How do I Pay for Logbook?

Payment should only be processed via the remita platform at www.remita.net   as follows:

  • Click on “Pay FGN and State TSA”.
  • In the “Who do you want to pay to” (type “National Open University of Nigeria”).
  • For “Name of Service /Purpose” (select “Miscellaneous income”).
  • In “Purpose of Payment” (type “SIWES Logbook”) as applicable. Provide relevant details and pay online or at the bank.
  • Fill in your details (phone number and e-mail address in the appropriate boxes).
  • The amount to be paid for document verification is One Thousand naira only (#1,000).
  • REMITA will send a mail (E-invoice) to your e-mail, print out and take to any commercial bank OR pay via your Internet Banking Site, Mobile Wallet or with your Debit/Credit Cards.
  • Please take the original receipt to the SIWES Desk Officer in your Study Centre to request for your logbook.

How can I attain a Pass grade?

Your final grade is determined by combining your TMAs and Examination scores.   1. Login to NOUN support website on https://support.nou.edu.ng/
  2. Raise a complaint/Ticket
  3. Attach a copy of your Admission Letter, O-Level certificate(s), (OND/NCE/HND results, where applicable) and other relevant documents.

How many courses do I need to register per semester?
  1. You are required to register for a maximum of 24 credit units per semester.
  2. Please note that it is mandatory to register for all the compulsory courses and at least 1 elective.
How can I access my Registrable Courses?
  • Log in to nou.edu.ng.
  • Select Faculty, then Department, scroll down and click on list of courses.
  • View registrable courses from 100 level to 400 level.
  • Please note that these courses will pop on your portal, and you should proceed to register for your preferred courses.
  • You might also consider visiting your Study Centre to obtain the list of registrable courses from either the Director’s office or Faculty Desk Officer.

What are the requirements for graduation?

For a student to be eligible for graduation, he/she must have met the following requirements:

  1. Must have earned the minimum Total Credit Earned (TCE) of 120 for Students’ who enrolled in 100 level and a minimum Total Credit Earned (TCE) of 80 for students who enrolled through direct entry.
  2. Must have done and pass all core courses and at least one (1) elective course per semester
  3. Must have spent the minimum of eight (8) semesters for students who enrolled in 100 and six (6) semesters for students who enrolled through direct entry.
  4. Must have earned a CGPA of at least 1:00 for undergraduate programme and 2.00 for postgraduate programme

Why Is My Course/Exam Registration Showing N6500 instead Of N1500?

Please beware that practical courses attracts a course levy N6500 naira only, as verified by your Faculty.

Below is a breakdown of the fee:

How do I collect my certificate?

Certificates are distributed at the various study centres after convocation, for a period of two (2) weeks.

What do I do, when I am unable to collect my certificate at the Study Centre during distribution?

You will visit the NOUN headquarters at Abuja with your clearance form obtained from the study centre to collect your certificate at Academic Registry office.

Can I get my certificate immediately after my name appears on NOUN graduation list?

No, your certificate will only be ready after convocation, but you can apply for statement of result before convocation as you await your certificate, you can apply for your SOR through www.transcript.nou.edu.ng

How do I apply for e-transcript?
  1. Go to transcript.nou.edu.ngto get started click on “Read Guideline” button to read the cost implications and other information on the various services in this platform.
  2. Click on “APPLY NOW” button
    Click on “Register” to create an account if you are a new user on this site or enter your email and password and click on “Sign me in” if you already have an account.
  3. Click on “New Request” button at the top-right corner after you have login
    Select your request type (please see https://transcript.nou.edu.ng/inc/e-Transcript%20Guideline.pdf)
  4. Generate payment token by clicking “Purchase Token” button to make your payment through the payment gateway.
  5. Click on “Submit” button to proceed with your payment
    After a successful payment, click on “Continue to Apply” on the payment status notification page
  6. Click on “Continue Application” button on your login page/dashboard to fill your request type form.
  7. Enter your matriculation number and click on “Search” button to display your name and programme with NOUN (please note that if your name and programme do not display, means your matriculation number is invalid and you cannot continue this application.

  11. Click on “Submit” button to complete your application.

N.B:
Once your application is successfully submitted, a tracking code will be sent to the phone number you provided in the course of your registration. You can use the tracking code to track the progress of your application and communicate with the processing officers as the case maybe.
