Alhassan to civil servants: Take advantage of NOUN’s robust programmes

Civil servants

The Director, Lokoja Study Centre of the National Open University of Nigeria, (NOUN) Dr. Godwin A. Alhassan, has enjoined Federal Civil Servants, including the Para-military agencies to take advantage of the sturdy programmes run by the university to advance their qualifications.

He stated this on 29 September, 2021 during the centre’s advocacy meetings with the federal establishments in Kogi State, held at the conference hall of the Federal University, Lokoja new campus.

According to Alhassan, “As civil servants and para-military personnel of the federal government, you are prone to transfers at short notice and so NOUN is the best place to study as our students have the opportunity to write examinations at any centre closest to your duty station.’’

He said students of the university can study at their convenience under a conducive environment different from the hustling and bustling nature of conventional campuses in Nigeria.

The director enumerated the ideals NOUN stands for with respect to its mode of course delivery as an ODL institution, adding that the university currently awards degrees at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels in eight disciplinary areas.

The eight faculties, he said, are Agricultural Sciences, Arts, Education, Health Sciences, Law, Management Sciences, Sciences and Social Sciences, adding that forty-eight undergraduate degree programmes are run in these disciplinary areas while thirty-eight postgraduate diploma, master’s and doctoral degrees are offered by the university.

Present at the event were the Vice-Chancellor, Federal University, Lokoja, Prof. Olayemi Akinwunmi and his management team and heads and staff of seventeen federal establishments in the State.

Highlights of the advocacy meetings were the distribution of fliers and pamphlets with details of NOUN programmes followed with questions and answers.

The centre director was accompanied in the engagements by the Senior Assistant Registrar (SAR), Ebute Victoria, Rekiyat Obari and other principal staff.
