Message from the Director
The Directorate of Advancement and Linkages plays a pivotal role in supporting the continued growth of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) through partnerships, collaboration, and resource mobilisation. It is my pleasure to welcome you and introduce the vision, mandate, and work of the Directorate.
The Directorate serves as the University’s gateway for fostering meaningful partnerships and strengthening institutional relationships that advance excellence in open and distance education. We continue to build and sustain collaborative networks that enhance the University’s visibility, expand its global reach, and create lasting value for our stakeholders.
At the Directorate of Advancement and Linkages, we champion initiatives that promote high-impact partnerships, institutional and international collaboration, community engagement, research and development, philanthropic engagement, and sustainable fundraising. These interconnected functions strengthen NOUN’s capacity to deliver quality education while enabling the University to respond effectively to emerging national and global developments.

About the Directorate of Advancement and Linkages (DAL)
The Directorate of Advancement and Linkages (DAL) was formerly a Unit under the Directorate of Research Administration and Advancement (DRAA). It was upgraded to a full-fledged Directorate with expanded functions in April 2021.
The expanded functions include exploring opportunities for collaboration and strategic partnerships with local and international institutions, agencies, industries, and individuals in the areas of training, research, and the overall development and advancement of the University.
Located on the first floor of the OPD Building on the University’s main campus, the Directorate performs a multidisciplinary role with the core mandate of attracting support for teaching, learning, research, and infrastructural development through fundraising, alumni relations, collaborations, and strategic partnerships.
The Directorate is domiciled in the Vice-Chancellery and is charged with the following core functions:
- Serve as the primary interface between the University and its affiliate institutions and collaborative agencies, while coordinating linkages between NOUN and various public and private sector organisations for qualitative manpower training, capacity building, and scientific and technological advancement.
- Promote and market NOUN’s academic programmes through purpose-driven curricula, collaborative research, and mutually beneficial staff and student exchange partnerships.
- Support and facilitate academic and administrative interactions, including undergraduate and postgraduate traineeship schemes, as well as other collaborative arrangements between NOUN and partner institutions and agencies.

Mission Statement
To establish, coordinate and manage NOUN’s linkages with other higher educational institutions, corporate organizations and educational stakeholders at the local and international levels, by seeking support and forging partnerships towards the attainment of the objectives of the open and distance education.
Vision Statement
To steer NOUN to be the foremost open and distance learning institution in teaching, research and community service through strategic partnerships and collaborations with local and international partners.
