NOUN Medical Diagnostic Laboratory

On June 8, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof, Olufemi Peters unveiled three new Medical Diagnostic Laboratory units of the National Open University (NOUN) at the Headquarters in Abuja. The well-equipped laboratories are:
(1) Haematology laboratory

It is located at the Faculty of Health Sciences block with the sole objective of reducing difficulties and enhancing first-hand diagnosis for University staff at a discounted price.

My plans as the Head of the Unit are massive but for now, to ensure that the Diagnostic Laboratory performs its function to its expectation by rendering Medical care to the university community and to the public; expanding the scope of the Laboratory List of tests, improving the quality management system of the laboratory as well electronic transmission of patients results to Doctor, among others.

The Diagnostic services include:
Genotype, blood group, Full blood count, Urine culture and sensitivity Semen analysis/Culture Fasting blood sugar, Liver function test Kidney function test (EU/ Creatinine) Lipid profile, Serological tests (HIV 1&2, Hepatitis B surface Antigen, HCV, Typhoid test) Malaria microscopy and many more.

All these tests are to determine the disease’s etiology.
