The Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), has held a send-off  get-together to celebrate the retirement of Mrs. Rhoda Alfa from active service.

Mrs. Alfa, who was among the staffers inherited from the defunct National Educational Technology Centre (NETC)  in 2007, started her NOUN sojourn with the then Directorate of Instructional Resource Documentation (DIRD) before she later joined the faculty in 2016 as a lecturer.

She retired from active service as a lecturer II from the Department of Agricultural Economics and Extension.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Chairman of the occasion and Dean, Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, Prof. Ahmad Njidda, expressed delight in celebrating the retirement age of their colleague, whom he described as “a role model and well articulated.”

He disclosed that he had “never in what ever capacity received or come across anybody complaining about her way of doing things or dealing with individual colleagues.”

Njidda prayed and thanked the Almighty God for taking her to this level and “witness this great and memorable gathering.”

He added that the service rendered by the celebrant will continue to flourish.

In her response the celebrant said she was delighted to grace the day and thanked the Almighty for a meritorious service, even as she appreciated her colleagues in the faculty.

She said her happiness could not be quantified following certain revelations from her colleagues.

“I was humble, I least expected what I have witnessed. You have made me what I don’t think I am,” an emotional Alfa said in appreciation with the ceremony.

“This good gesture,” she continued, “serves as a source of inspiration and appreciation.”

Present at the ceremony were Prof. Nda Mundi, Director, NAF Special Study Centre; Mr. Yusuf Abdullahi, Director, Kaduna Study Centre as well as other high-ranking staff of the faculty who joined the event via zoom.
