The Secretary-General of the Association of African Universities (AAU), Prof. Olusola B. Oyewole, has commended the management of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) for several milestones achieved since inception.
Prof. Oyewole stated this during a courtesy visit with his team to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olufemi Peters in his office at the university headquarters in Jabi, Abuja.
Speaking on the importance of online learning in the higher education sector, the SG stated that NOUN is giving hope to many people who had lost the opportunity to access university education.
‘‘It will be our great pleasure to collaborate with you, especially at this time that universities have come to know that virtual learning should be part of the learning process.
‘‘we will be glad to recommend people to NOUN to learn from the great things you are doing,” he added.
The VC earlier while playing host to the team said NOUN will continue to keep up with the digital innovations in its mode of delivery.
According to Prof.Peters, the digital world is challenging with new inventions and innovations thus the need for capacity building in the university.
‘‘This is why we did what most universities cannot do by creating an office for innovation and technology,” Peters said.
He further described ACETEL as the link between the institution and other universities in Africa, especially in the area of digitalization.
It would be recalled that AAU is a membership organisation of over 400 universities in Africa with collaborations in the continental level.
