The Faculty of Law, National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) and the Law Students’ Association of Nigeria (LAWSAN), NOUN Chapter, have organised a Moot Court Competition for all Law students of the university across the six geopolitical zones of the country on the 3rd of October, 2023.

The director, Benin Study Centre, Dr. Akeem Disu, represented by Mrs. Nkechi Okoduwa, Desk Officer, Faculty of Law, welcomed

Barr. Ahmad Hudu and Dr. Chinyere Obiageli, faculty delegates from NOUN headquarters, who were at the centre to monitor the activities of the competition.

Prior to the scheduled date of the competition, the participants had been given an appeal case to analyse, research relevant laws, prepare written submissions and present an oral argument.

The students showed up dressed in their legal paraphernalia and ready to argue their points.

In an interview with NOUN News, the faculty representatives from NOUN headquarters explained that the Moot Court Competition is a creative and interactive method of enhancing legal knowledge.

They stated that while engaging in moot court activities, students learn legal concepts of defence, opening and closing of arguments.

The appellants and respondents began by introducing themselves and stating the theme of the case.

They proceeded to argue their various points and findings.

The acting judge, Mr. Agustine Ezebuife Nwanzereviewed the case and gave a decision based on factual findings.

It was an exciting and educative session as the students expressed their appreciation for the opportunity to learn the process of mooting.
