A new study centre of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) has been established in Delta State, South-south geopolitical zone of the country.

The new centre, Onicha Ugbo Study Centre, though yet to be formally inaugurated, has commenced operation since April, 2022, making it the fifth study centre of NOUN in Delta State and the 14th in the South-south region.

The pioneer director of the centre, Dr. Osasere Owen-Sogolo, in a chat with NOUN News revealed that she assumed duty at the centre on 19th April, 2022.

Owen-Sogolo said that the centre, though new, is a big centre which operates from its permanent site complete with structures for a library, science laboratories and other educational facilities.

She also revealed that the centre already boasts of 13 members of staff.

The Onicha Ugbo Study Centre, which has already flagged of its vigorous advocacy campaign, in the course of the week paid a courtesy visit to the Obi of Onicha Ugbo, His Royal Highness Obi Chukwumalieze 1 (JP), at his palace.

Owen-Sogolo, who led her team to the palace, explained to the monarch that she was at the palace to pay homage to the king and to intimate him of the presence of the National Open University of Nigeria in his domain.

The Obi, who was visibly elated at the visit, said that the presence of the National Open University of Nigeria in Onicha Ugbo has catapulted the community to a frontline status among neighbouring communities in Delta State, adding that he would do everything possible to become one of the pioneer students of the centre.

The centre director said that human traffic has been building up steadily at the centre since administrative operations commenced in April, as inquirers have been streaming in seeking information on enrollment and the mode of operation of the university.
