NMCS Certificates of Return

As winners of the just-concluded National Open University of Nigeria  Staff Multipurpose Co-operative Society (NMCS)’s elections received their Certificates of Return, the Chairperson, NMCS Electoral Committee, Prof. Doris Obieje has advised them to be humane and carry the cooperators along with a view to delivering selfless and effective service to the society.

Obieje gave this charge on Monday, October 16, 2023 during the collection of Certificate of Return by the winners at NOUN  headquarters, Jabi, Abuja.

While congratulating the winners for their victories at the polls, the chairperson implored the  winners to be magnanimous in victory.

“Be humane in whatever you do, be careful and consider people. You won not for your pockets, but cooperators’ pockets. You have started this system of transporting people, that is humanity. Don’t use this opportunity to enrich yourselves. You are a leader with the supports of the led; lead them well,” Obieje said.

Also speaking, a key member of the committee, Dr. Moses Etila Shaibu, advised the newly elected officials of the society to do to others what they would expect others to do to them.

“While personality has won you the election, what you need to survive there for these two years is your character. And it is that character that makes you relate with people. When you have a man or woman of character, your first principle is that you do to others what you expect others to do to you. Think about the others before you,” he said.

He described the 2023 NMCS elections as the most keenly contested election in the history of the society, and suggested an induction training for the newly elected officials.

Speaking further, Shaibu said they should embrace check and balances, collaboration, flexibility, networking, teamwork and manage resources very well to reach every cooperator especially in the area of loan disbursements.

He equally advised them to be innovative most especially in critical areas such as functional websites for the society, NMCS’ letter-head, files for all the offices, file for Supervisory Committee, among other innovations.

Meanwhile, the Vice-President-elect, Mr. Gimba Bashiru, in his vote of thanks on behalf of the President-elect, Bala Lazarus Sabo, thanked the electoral committee and the cooperator-electorates for their commitments towards the success of the elections, promising to carry all members along.

Other people who graced the event were: Secretary, NMCS Electoral Committee, Mr. Isaiah K. Audu, member, NMCS Electoral Committee, Engr. Birok George, friends of the new officials and well-wishers.
