The director, Port Harcourt Study Centre, National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Dr. Nnenna Nancy Chukwuma, has redirected her advocacy focus to the radio stations in the oil-rich city of Port Harcourt.

Chukwuma, taking advantage of the proximity of her centre to most of the radio houses in the city, has become a familiar voice on the airwaves of the radio stations in recent times.

In the past week, the centre director has appeared as guest on live interview on Super 93.3 FM, Eleme, Port Harcourt, where the subject of discussion was centred on the ongoing ASUU/Federal Government imbroglio that has kept university students out of school for the past seven weeks and how NOUN is involved.

Chukwuma, who is not one to look a gift horse in the mouth, seized the opportunity to explain that the law establishing the National Open University of Nigeria has foreclosed the university embarking on or participating in any strike action, and that NOUN is always in operation even when the conventional universities had downed tools.

A couple of days later, the trend berthed at Treasure 98.5 FM, a subsidiary of Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), at Mgbuoba, Port Harcourt, where the director, along with the deputy director, Media & Publicity, Mr. Joel Nkanta, featured in Let’s Talk About It, a phone-in magazine programme. The subject of discourse, of course, was NOUN and how it operates.

These guest appearances came after similar outings at Nigeria Info 92.3 FM as well as the grass root radio station, WAZOBIA 94.1 FM, all in Port Harcourt Rivers State.

In the meantime, the university’s promotional jingle has been blaring on the airwaves of Rivers State every other day, while the traffic of inquirers has been on the increase in recent times.
