Representatives of the NOUN Community at the burial ceremony

The body of the late Mr. Godfrey Ogbonna Chiemerem Onwubere (GOC) was on Friday, April 26, 2024, committed to the mother earth at his residence in Dile-Emeohe, Mbaoma, Emii, Owerri North Local Government Area, Imo State.

The deceased was the husband of Professor Chidinma Henrietta Onwubere of the Department of Mass Communication, Faculty of Social Sciences, National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN).

GOC as he was fondly called, who died on March 18, 2024, was a retired staff of the Nigerian Security, Printing & Minting Company, where he impacted significantly into the growth and development of the organisation.

Burial ceremonyTestimonies about him indicated that he was a community leader par excellence, an epitome of magnanimity and a dispenser of love and goodness to anyone that crossed his path,a phenomenal and people-oriented, reachable and consummate personality, whose leadership position as Chairman of the Emeohe Town Union, brought about developmental transformation to his Community.

His Community participation earned him the Chairmanship of the Board of Trustee of the Igbo Ise Community Association of Nigeria, Igbogbo-Bayeku, lkorodu, in 2022.

At the social setting, he was remembered for his cultural activities as he assimilated fully into his cultural milieu, being the major actor/figure in their youthful masquerade dance called the “Udu Abiriba Dance.”

He was described as a “man with a golden heart,” whose commitment in his service to God and humanity was profound, even as he remained in the choir in the places that he lived and his sopranous voice will be greatly missed in any Church Service that he would have attended.

Representatives of the NOUN Community at the burial occasion included the Port Harcourt Study Centre Director, Dr. Ettu U. Theresa, Owerri Study Centre Director, Dr. Juliana Ndunagu, Owerri Study Centre’s Counsellor, Dr. Olukemi A.Fagbolu and Mrs. Ijeoma Iwu.

Others were Dr. Chuks O. Enwerem, Dr. Emeka C. Ogoko and Mr. Chukwuemeka Nwosu.
