A one-day public lecture aimed at discussing a value-driven approach toward addressing mis-information and dis-information among the youth is planned to hold at the headquarters of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) in Abuja.
The lecture, with the theme:“Cultivating Media Literacy Society: A Value-driven Approach to Addressing Mis/Disinformation among the Youth,” is billed to hold on Tuesday, July 30, 2024 at the Conference Hall, NOUN headquarters, Abuja, by 11:00am.
It is jointly organised by the quartet of the International Media and Information Literacy Institute (IMILI), the Federal Ministry of Information, the Media and Information Literacy and Inter-Cultural Dialogue Foundation (MILID) and the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN).
According to the Head, Mass Communication Department, who is also the host, Dr. Lateef Adelakun, the thrust of the lecture was to develop critical thinking skills that enable young people to discern credible information from misinformation and instill a sense of responsibility, among others.
Prof. Chidinmma Onwubere of the NOUN’s Mass Communication department and Dr. Chido Onumah, Representative of MILID, will feature as guest speakers, while the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olufemi Peters is the chief host of the event.
