The Vice-Chancellor, National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Prof. Olufemi Peters, has commissioned a gigantic edifice at the Opi Community Study Centre, Nsukka Local Government Area, Enugu State.

The commissioning of the one-storey building, held on Wednesday, September 14, 2022 signalled the university’s “capacity to help Nigeria achieve Sustainable Development Goals of Quality Education for all,”according to the Vice-Chancellor.

Represented by the centre director, Prof. Uche Onyia, the VC appreciated Alhaji Jimoh Rauf for his kind benevolence and dedication to the service of humanity for single-handedly building and dedicating the edifice to NOUN.

” All over the world, individuals, corporate bodies and philanthropists do help government in providing the basic needs of academic institutions in a bid to help advance the society and increase the human development indices.

“It is in line with this philosophy that Alhaji Badamosi has deemed it necessary to donate this learning edifice to help bring education and knowledge which is power to the centre,” he said.

Peters explained that NOUN is the largest Open and Distance Learning institution in West Africa with over 600,000 students as well as having partnership with different international organisations and equipped with state-of-the-art facilities cum sophisticated digital resources aimed at bringing education closer to the doorsteps of all.

Speaking on benefits of studying at NOUN, Peters said the institution is anchored on philosophy of affordability, flexibility, even as no experience of academic interruption often caused by industrial actions occur at the university, hence students graduate at record time, in their own own pace and space, among others.

He celebrated the excellence, dedication, humility and selflessness which the donor has shown to the university and humanity through his kind gesture and goodwill.

On his part, His Royal Highness (HRH), lgwe Ben Atama, lgwe of Idi – Opi Autonomous Community, expressed appreciation and described Ahaji Badamosi as a promoter of education through his philanthropist disposition, “good market sales itself,”he added.

He further made a clarion call to well-meaningful individuals and the sons & daughters of the soil to join hand in the development of the centre, pledging to continue supports of the host community to the centre.

Ichie Peter Ezea, in his speech, described him as a man whose benevolence, dispositions have impacted many lives significantly, as witnessed by this magnificent structure at the centre.

Earlier, the Opi Community Study Centre Director, Mrs. Onyehalu M. Theresa, had narrated the processes the trio of HRH lgwe Attama, Ichie Ezea and the President General of Idi -Opi Autonomous Community, Olowu Ikeoha Levi and NOUN, Opi Community Study Centre management went through by first visiting Alhaji Badamosi in his house at Ibeagwa, which has given rise to the edifice being celebrated.

The commissioning attracted people from all walks of life to share in the excitement of the centre.

The high-point of the event was the presence of high calibre of  personalities  in attendance, including the likes of NOUN Registrar, Mr. Oladipo Ajayi, represented by the Uyo Study Centre Director, Prof. Charity Okonkwo, Alhaji Jimoh Rauf Badamosi, represented by Alhaji Danjuma Ahmed IIu, the former Secretary to Enugu State Government, Hon. Dr. Dan Shere, the duo of Ugwu Helen and Obetta Eucharia Nkechi both of Transnational Pulse Foundation, as well as staff and students of the NOUN.
