In a bid to enhance creativity and ethical conduct in its mode of operation, The National Open University of Nigeria’s Centre for Human Resource Development, Kaduna (NOUN-CHRD) has organised a 2-day training workshop for the teachers of NOUN Staff School to boost its standard of operation and mode of delivery.
The training workshop, which was held between 9th – 10th May, 2022, at the centre’s board room, was aimed at upgrading the teaching capacity of the teachers and ethical conduct of staff so as to equip them with modern teaching skills and work ethics of the 21st Century.
With the theme: “Innovative Teaching and Ethical Conduct at the Basic school Level, ‘’ the training harped on the need for the staff school teachers to embrace the training as it is a tool for equipping them with modern teaching delivery skills.
Declaring the workshop open, The Vice-chancellor, NOUN, Professor Olufemi Peters tasked the participants to value what they have with all sense of seriousness.
The VC, represented by the Deputy, Vice-chancellor, Administration, Professor Isaac Bustwat, maintained that his administration has passion and support for the training of its staff, that is why the go ahead for the training workshop received quickest approval.
While commending the director CHRD, Dr. Aminu Umar, for his level of diligence, the VC expressed his appreciation and commended the centre for it’s foresight and in making the workshop a success.
He further call on Parents Teachers Association of the University staff school (PTA) to organize a sensitization exercise on the need for the school to increase school fees so as to see the possibility of fulfilling the demands of teachers by increasing their salaries.
The VC also implored the management to call for a review of its modus-operandi in every one or two years,’I urge you to follow up the already tabled request to the management of the university’’, he added.
Earlier in his speech, the centre director CHRD commended the VC for his endless support to the Centre in ensuring that it has fulfilled its mandate of providing corporate social responsibility to Nigerians.
Speaking on NOUN staff school (NSS), Umar said that the school came into existence in 2012 and currently has about thirty seven teaching and non-teaching staff with four hundred pupils, which simply states that NSS is one of the best school in terms of quality delivery and manpower capacity, taking into consideration teacher’s pupils ratio.
‘’Given this reality, the workshop becomes even necessary because there is need to upgrade the teaching capacity of the teachers and ethical conduct of staff so as to equip them with modern teaching skills and work ethics of the 21st century’’,the director stated.
’’This will no doubt uplift the standard of education in the school and further lays a sound foundation to our pupils. However, this cannot be achieved without the adequate information and Communication Technology Facilities at the School ‘’, he added.
While soliciting assistance of the Vice-chancellor to support the school with modern computer systems so as to Kick-start the journey into integrating the value of Open and Distance Learning mode of delivery to the pupils and younger Nigerians, he also call on the Vice-chancellor to consider the challenges confronting NOUN Campus due to its critical importance.
He further urged the participants to pay rapt attention to what they would be thought as this is one of the panacea to tackle challenges bedevilling educational development in Nigeria.
Meanwhile the VC toured the Facilities and Units of CHRD before retiring to his operational base at the headquarters in Abuja.
