The Africa Centre of Excellence on Technology Enhanced Learning (ACETEL), in collaboration with the Prime Touch Technologies, has organised an On-Premises Database Management Application training for Database Administrators.
The trained administrators will manage the newly-built Data Centre of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), as six ICT staff were drawn from ACETEL and the university.
The 4-day training, held at the ACETEL’s Cisco Lab at the NOUN headquarters, Abuja, was meant to empower Network Administrators in the university with the necessary skills and knowledge of ensuring data security for the university.
Project Manager of Prime Touch Technologies, Mr. Valentine Chahul, who spoke on behalf of the Managing Director, Dr. Tokunbo Omolokun, said the company is working to harmonise the university’s database domiciled in different units and departments of the university.
He said ACETEL intends to take the university to a level where they can draw analytics on the data.
Chahul said “The first step is to harmonise the data in one place, that is where we came in and we are not just harmonising the data into one place, which will be housed by the data centre there.
“We are also building a custom habitation for the university that will be used in crunching that data to get information for informed decision making.
“We are training people that will take over the application and database and begin to put it into full use, bringing all the data from all the departments and units through the database and begin to crunch it for information purposes.”
