Prof. Onyia (SCD) administering oath to students

A total of 11 inmates who graduated from the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) with various degrees have received their certificates even as over 100 fresh students have been matriculated.

The Enugu Study Centre Director, Prof. Uche Onyia, who represented the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olufemi Peters said  during the certificate presentation of the 11th Convocation cum 23rd Matriculation ceremonies.

The two-pronged event was held at NOUN Special Study Centre, Nigerian Correctional Service, Enugu, Enugu State.

He admonished the matriculating inmates to leverage on the platform NOUN provides to them to enrol for studies.

“’This is imperative, so that as you gain your freedom you would have been empowered for knowledge,” stressing that “knowledge is power.”

Earlier, the controller of Correctional Service, Enugu, Mr. Nicholas Obiako, thanked the management of NOUN for their capacity building and advised the inmates to key into the free education provided by the institution for their better tomorrow.

The Registrar, Mr. Felix Edoka, represented by the Chief Statistician, Mr. Mosugu Kolawole, presented certificates to prison inmates, who graduated during the 11th convocation ceremony of the institution, held in March, 2022.

He then administered the oath to matriculating students.

The high profile of personalities present among others were the Enugu State Commissioner of Education, Prof. Uche Eze, represented by the Director Admin & Supplies, Mr. Chukwudi Onah and the Director of Public Prosecution, Enugu State, Barrister Nkem Okorie.

However, friends, families, relatives and well – wishers trooped in large numbers to grace the occasion, even as the event ended smoothly.

Meanwhile, the desk officer, NOUN Special Study Centre, Mr. Kelvin, ILoafonsi, described the exercise as historic and thanked the VC for the provision of 100 set of brand-new computers and desks to the centre.

This act of magnanimity, according to ILoafonsi, showed the VC’s unquenchable desire towards ensuring that the students are well reformed and rehabilitated before reintegration back into the larger society.
