The Management of Asaba Study Centre of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Asaba, Delta State, on Wednesday, August 10, 2022, invaded markets in the Asaba Metropolis with the message of Open and Distance Learning (ODL) advocacy.
The advocacy road walk, which was spearheaded by the centre director, Prof. Chibuogwu Nnaka, was aimed at enlightening residents of the city about the programmes of NOUN, the location of the centre and how it could be accessed.
Nnaka led her team to three major markets in Asaba: Motor Spare Parts Market, Building/Electrical Materials Market, and the famous Ogbe-Oghonogho Main Market, all in the metropolis.
With their high fidelity sound system, the advocacy team stormed the streets and market places, sensitising residents on the mode of operation of the university, admission procedure, available programmes, and the competitive advantages of registering at the university over the conventional system.
The outing was backed up with a detachment of fully armed police personnel in order to forestall any infiltration by hooligans and possible break down of order and public peace by street urchins.
The road walk, which ended at 3.00 p.m, also featured the distribution of flyers to residents and passers-by by the staff of Asaba Study Centre.
