Prof. Amini

The Director, Yenagoa Study Centre, National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, Prof. Clifford Moses Amini, has told students of his centre that there is no room for exams malpractice in whatever form in the West Africa’s largest Open and Distance Learning (ODL) university, NOUN.

Amini made the statement during the 2022_2 orientation/exams briefing organised by the management of the centre to sensitise both fresh and returning students on the operations of the university in general and the regulations governing exams administration in particular.

He explained that NOUN is an institution whose uniqueness is captured in the new motto of the university, “Learn at any place, at your pace,” adding that the university is flexible, cost-effective and offers a second chance university education opportunity for those who missed it earlier in life due to lack of funds, early marriages or other circumstances.

“NOUN offers qualitative learning opportunities to those who wish to pursue postgraduate qualifications up to doctorate level, ” he added.

While emphasising that NOUN operates a do-it-yourself (DIY) mode of learning, Amini called on the students to participate actively on academic conversations on their respective departmental and faculty media platforms as well as meeting their faculty desk officers whenever they encounter challenges.

The director admonished students to freely come to him whenever they felt that solutions proffered to them by desk officers or other staff were inadequate.

“My doors are always open to attend to you on issues that are beyond my staff, ” he said.

Different heads of units took turns to sensitise the newly admitted students on the workings of their units towards the enhancement of their seamless learning experience at the university.

Other officers who made presentations at the event included Mr. Napoleon Opubo Graham-Douglas, an administrative officer; Mr.  Chinedu Akunobi, centre accountant, and Mr. Meshach Chinedu Omili, system analyst.

There was also an interactive session, during which the major concern of students was the flooding that has taken over Bayelsa State and the possibility of postponing the forthcoming 2022_2 examinations.
