As part of the university’s Corporate Social Responsibility/Social Services, the Kaduna Study Centre of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) in collaboration with the Igabi Local Government Students Union, has organised a debate competition among secondary schools in the area.

Director of the centre, Mr. Yusuf Abdullahi, said at the end of the event that it was an avenue through which the university can reach out to the grass-root communities.

“This development was critically meant for university’s effort of Corporate Social Responsibility in Igabi Local Government, Kaduna and the country as a whole,” he said.

He added that there is no doubt the competition will stimulate youths in their pursuits of education especially in the area of research.

The centre director urged the students to patronise the university as there are numerous opportunities available for them to harness.

Abdullahi further stated that the university caters for the needs of farmers, housewives, army and all calibre of people, adding that due to the university’s flexible nature, the students can determine when to graduate rather than the university.

The director substantially explained the three philosophical tripod of affordability, accessibility and flexibility of which the university operates on.

Moreover, he narrated that NOUN provides free education to inmates at the correctional facilities in the country.

On his part, the president of the union, Comrade Saifulahi Ameer Magaji, underscored the importance of such collaboration.

He stated in the letter sent to the centre that “indeed, having your support will go a very long way in eliminating unforeseeable constraints. It will further significantly increase the success rate of the Igabi Students Association.”

At the end of the competition, Government Secondary School, Rigachikun came first, while Fasbena Academy clinched the second, as the third position went to Maryam Academy.

The pioneer Kaduna Study Centre director, Prof. Nuhu Laurence Garba, academicians, traditional title holders and politicians from the local government and beyond graced the occasion.
