The centre director, Owerri Study Centre, National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Dr. Theresa Ucheoma Ettu, on Friday, 28th July, 2023, implored students of her centre to take charge of their studies as Open and Distance Learning (ODL) is a student centered mode of instructional delivery.
Ettu made this charge while addressing students during the first sensitisation forum held for students at the centre in Owerri, Imo State.
The director explained that the forum was “part of Owerri Study Centre’s effort to keep its students prepared for their studies without much stress.”
She said that the forum afforded students an opportunity to get exposed to all the websites of the university in order to get guided on the proper handling of their semester registrations as well as course and examination registrations, among other academic processes.
Ettu explained the benefits of full participation in facilitations by students, as well as the need to do their tutor-marked assignments themselves.
She added that students were grouped into their various faculties to enable productive interactions, even as their respective desk officers were equiped to guide them on the handling of nonexaminable courses and projects.
The director reeled out some pitfalls students need to avoid in order to experience enjoyable and seamless academic experience in the university.
Students took turns to ask questions on grey areas, while the management of the centre provided the required answers that enriched the forum.
