The Open and Distance Learning (ODL) mode of instructional delivery has enormous benefits that any organisation in the country would need to take the full advantages of, the Director, Enugu Study Centre, National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Prof. Alexander Uche Onyia, has said.

He made this charge on Tuesday, August 29, 2023, when he took an advocacy campaign to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) at New Market in Enugu, Enugu State.

Onyia, accompanied by his senior staff of the centre, said the advocacy was part of the centre’s continued drive to attract students’ enrollment to the centre.

He took time to sensitise the personnel on  the modus – operandi of NOUN, highlighting great advantages of studying at the university especially its flexibility, affordability and timely completion of academic programmes, among others.

“NOUN is the only institution licensed by the National Universities Commission (NUC) to offer single – mode Open and Distance education to learners in the West African sub – region.ODL mode of Instructional delivery are driven by technology,” Onyia stated.

The director added that “the availability of quality course materials made easy” enhances individual’s level of understanding via self – studying and if there be grey areas, such would be clarify during facilitation exercise.

Onyia asserted that knowledge is power and not only does it improves your day – to – day job but also  can take you to the next level.

He therefore appealed to the Civil Defence Officers to see it as a matter of urgency by availing  themselves to the opportunity NOUN has provided to upgrade academically.

At the event, the centre’s Principal Assistant Registrar (PAR), Mr Mathew Egede, explained to the audience about the admission criteria, processes and procedures in getting an admission into the institution.

The Commandant, Enugu State Command, Mohammed Saleh Dada, in his response, expressed excitement about the enlightenment of the operations of NOUN, describing it establishment as a good initiative as well as one of the best thing that has happened in Nigeria.

” The university has succeeded in beefing up the number of literates we have today, both in public and private organizations. It is education that can take you to the top of your life.Incidentially, at NOUN  you can be working and at the time studying”, Dada stressed.

He reiterated on the importance of academic upgrading and opined that ”  holding first degree qualification in Nigeria is like holding pure water”.

Dada charged his men to package themselves well to improve academically.

Officers of the Civil Defence took turns to ask questions, while the management of the centre provided corresponding answers.
