New and returning students of the Abakiliki Study Centre, National Open of Nigeria(NOUN), have been enjoined to wholly embrace the orientation exercise as it is aimed at preparing them towards the academic journey ahead, the centre director, Dr. Udu Ama Aka, has said.

He made this remark on Wednesday, October 18, 2023 during the 2023_2 orientation exercise organised by the centre in Ebonyi State.

Aka, in his speech titled “Know your University,” said that “NOUN is an Open and Distance Learning (ODL) institution driven with technology. NOUN is an institution committed towards bringing higher education closer to the door steps of Nigerians at flexible, affordable and cost-effective among others.”

He added that students who aspire to excel academically must be friendly with computer operations, stressing that examinations and assignments are usually carried out electronically.

The director emphasised that their admission into the university marks the beginning of a new dawn in the pursuit of their academic dreams and therefore, charged them to be diligent in their studies.

Aka reiterated that their enrollment into NOUN is anchored on their desire/ quest to acquire higher education knowledge and NOUN is the credible platform to provide that knowledge.

Commenting on the forthcoming examination, Aka charged them to face their studies squarely and avoid acts capable of aborting their dream of obtaining higher degree certificates.

At the event, the Assistant Registrar, (AR), Mr. Michael Okpara, enlightened students about the functions of the registrar as well as dos and don’t s at the university, which include the avoidance of 419 cyber cafes, avoidance of examination malpractice, regular visit of their portals, decent dressing, among others.

Students took turns to ask questions on issues that were not clear, while the centre management provided answers to the satisfaction of students, even as the orientation ended seamlessly.
