The President General Isulo Development Union (IDU), Dr. Stanley Oguagbaka, has commended the management of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) for bringing education to the doorstep of Isulo Community in Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Oguagbaka stated this when he led a 3-man delegation to pay a courtesy visit to the vice-chancellor, Prof. Olufemi Peters, in his office at the headquarters of the university in Jabi, Abuja.

‘’The thrust of our visit is to show appreciation and commend the vice-chancellor and his management team for their support to the Isulo Community Study Centre,” he said.

The union president went on to express his gratitude to the university management on behalf of his community.

“We are thankful on behalf of the Isulo Development Union (IDU) for extending the hands of fellowship to people in rural areas through Open and Distance Learning (ODL), and creating opportunity for those who could not get into conventional universities to study’’, he added.

Oguagbaka, who explained that his tenure as the president of IDU would elapse soon also said he deemed it necessary to pay the courtesy visit to the management of the university to applaud them for their support in the actualisation of the NOUN dream in their community and to pray for the university’s continuous healthy relationship with his successor and the Isulo Community in general.

Peters, in his welcome remarks to the team said NOUN will continue to do its best for the Isulo Community.

Represented by the deputy vice-chancellor (Administration),Prof. Isaac Butswat, Peters appreciated the IDU team for deeming it worthwhile to pay a courtesy visit to the management of the university.

“This is very thoughtful of the union as it will open more doors for the community. Your tenure will end but what you did remains a landmark,” he added.

Also present during the courtesy visit were Prof. Chiedu  Mafiana, DVC(Acad.), and Mr. Femi Oyedipe, deputy registrar, (VC’s Office) among other senior members of staff of the university.
