A graduate of B.Sc Mass Communication, Faculty of Social Sciences of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Mrs. Inegbedion Aruoriwo, has emerged the Best Graduating Student during the 13th Convocation Ceremony of the university held on Saturday, April 13, 2024 at its headquarters, Jabi, Abuja.
With a cumulative Grade Point of 4.78, Aruoriwo stood out among the 22,175 graduands, bagging the prestigious award for best graduating student for the year.
While delivering her valedictory speech at the ceremony, she challenged NOUN students to embrace diligence, prioritise self-discipline and maintain focus on their aspirations to achieve success.
Aruoriwo charged students to rise to the occassion if she could achieve this feat amidst myriads of challenges, then anyone can do the same.
Speaking on her academic voyage, Aruoriwo said her education with NOUN commenced in the year 2020 and was motivated by the desire for personal advancement.
She said balancing her studies with responsibilities of being a wife and a mother was no small feat, but, ‘’armed with determination and guided by the invaluable resources provided by the institution, I embarked on this journey.’
Reflecting on the arduous yet rewarding journey in NOUN, Mass Communication graduate said “nights spent studying by the faint glow of a phone touch during power outages and the meticulous planning of studying schedule underscored the sacrifices made to achieve my academic goals, despite financial constraints and commuting challenges for my examinations, perseverance prevailed.’.
Aruoriwo urged prospective students still contemplating higher education to join NOUN where education is affordable, flexible and efficient, saying that “In NOUN education transcends boundaries, empowering learners to chart their academic journey at their own pace.”
She enjoined all present at the ceremony to continue to celebrate and uphold the university to ensure endured prosperity for the institution.
The valedictorian expressed her gratitude to the university management for their unwavering support and recognition of diligence and hard work.
She also expressed her appreciation to her professors for their invaluable guidance and to her husband and children for their encouragement and love that fuelled her determination to the present success.
