The Director, Uyo Study Centre, National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Dr. Edwin Bassey, has flagged off advocacy campaign with a visit to the Correctional Centre in the state.
Bassey, who along with a member of staff of his centre, Mr. Otobong Dominic Alexander, began the campaign with a visit to the Office of the Comptroller, Nigerian Correctional Services, Akwa Ibom State Command, Mr. Julius Ezukwu, was later taken to the Correctional facilities in Ikot Ekpene by his host.
Ezukwu, while taking the NOUN Centre Director on a facility tour of the Correctional Centre, explained to his guests that processes have been initiated for possible establishment of a NOUN Special Study Centre at the premises of Ikot Ekpene Correctional Services Centre.
The comptroller expressed his appreciation for Bassey’s visit and said that his administration was willing to take advantage of the policy of the NOUN to empower inmates of correctional centres in Nigeria with free tertiary education.
He further expressed the hope that his pursuit of establishing a special study centre at the Correctional Centre would come to fruition.
Bassey thanked the comptroller for the warm welcome accorded him and pledged his support for his dream to establish a special study centre within the correctional facility.
