It was a great event at the Ondo State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology as the outgoing Executive Council of the Counselling Association of Nigeria (CASSON), Ondo State Chapter, handed over the leadership of the association to the new Executive Council.
The director of Oka-Akoko Study Centre,National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Dr, Joseph Babajide Oyadeyi, who was the outgoing chairman of CASSON, in his handover speech, thanked God for seeing the outgoing executive through for five years.
Oyadeyi extolled his predecessor, Prof. Clement Daramola for laying the good foundation that his executive built upon and while recounting his administration’s achievements, he said the outgoing executive recorded huge success as the association was taken to an enviable height.
He noted that among the achievements were the organisation of the first-ever state conference of the association in the chapter, floating of the official journal of the association, named “Ondo Journal of Counselling Psychology and Behavioural Studies.”
The director added that the exco was also able to produce the Bye-Laws for the state chapter.
Other achievements listed by the outgoing chairman include the resuscitation of non-effective zones, an effective membership drive that led to an increased number of members from all levels of education, the private sector, hospitals, clergy, etc.
Oyedeyi, therefore, highlighted some of the challenges of the association as inadequate funds, paucity of counsellors in schools and lack of office for the association, while thanking God for the wisdom to steer the affairs of the association.
He expressed appreciation to the Director of the Guidance and Counselling Unit, Ministry of Education, Science and Technology and the Ondo State government for their support and the CASSON members in the state for their loyalty and inestimable support.
While congratulating the new executives under the leadership of Prof. Taiwo Adenegan of the Achiever’s University, Owo, he promised to support the new leadership to surpass the achievements of the outgoing executive.
Responding, the new chairman thanked the outgoing chairman and his executive members for the feat the association has attained during their tenure.
He said he is poised to continue on the good job of the immediate-past leadership.
“I stand before you today with a deep sense of gratitude and responsibility as I accept the honour of serving as the new Ondo State Chairman of our esteemed Association, Ondo State CASSON,” Prof. Adenegan said.
