ACETEL office

The Vice-Chancellor of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) Prof. Olufemi Peters, has said that the new structure of the Africa Centre of Excellence on Technology enhanced Learning (ACETEL) will be a smart building to achieve the requirement of the sponsors of the project.

Peters said this while leading the ground-breaking ceremony of ACETEL office on Monday, March 6, 2022 at the headquarters of the university, Jabi, Abuja.

He said the complex will consist of different offices including a central library of 73 sitting capacity and a theatre for conferences and events with a minimum capacity of 100, among others.

Speaking further, Peters mentioned that some Africa Centres of Excellence (ACEs) are operating in an existing structure, but ACETEL is having a brand-new structure that will compete with other ACE centres across the world.

“The objective of creating ACETEL demands that anything we are doing must be according to standard,” he said.

Earlier in her speech, the centre director, Prof. Grace Jokthan, said the requirements of the project must be met, hence the building of the permanent site.

Jokthan added that the university has been very supportive in assisting the centre to meet the necessary conditions required for the project.

“The university has given us a conducive office, well-furnished and properly maintained. We would have had no need for a permanent site, nevertheless the project demands for this,’’ she said.

The research coordinator for the centre, Prof. Christine Ofulue, in her vote of thanks, reassured the university of ACETEL’s commitment to upholding the image of the institution.
